Is divorce available in the Philippines?
In general, Philippine law does not provide for absolute divorce between most spouses, and the rules can differ for certain groups. Depending on your situation, the available remedies may include declaration of nullity or annulment of marriage, legal separation, or judicial recognition of a foreign divorce. Which remedy fits depends on the facts, so please consult a lawyer about your case.
What is recognition of a foreign divorce?
It is a court proceeding in the Philippines in which a divorce obtained abroad is recognized so that its effects are reflected in Philippine civil registry records. Eligibility and requirements depend on the circumstances of the parties and should be reviewed by a lawyer.
I lost my case in a lower court. What can I do?
In many cases you may be able to elevate it on appeal, for example to the Court of Appeals, or to the Regional Trial Court in its appellate jurisdiction for cases from first-level courts. Appeals are strictly time-limited, so please contact us as soon as possible and bring the decision and the date you received it.
Can you act as our company’s corporate secretary or retainer counsel?
Yes. Our lawyers can act as Corporate Secretaries of Philippine companies, and in some cases we accommodate requirements for a Resident Agent of foreign corporations. We are also available as retainer counsel for corporations and individuals.
